our history

Riverview Church was founded by Brian and Valerie Baker in December 1979, initially known as Inner City Faith Fellowship, with the first meeting held at a hall in Belmont. In May 1980, the Church moved to leased premises in Brisbane Street, Perth. By 1982, our congregation had grown to 400 and it was necessary to move once again, this time to the Stirling Street premises in Perth, with an auditorium seating up to 1000. It was during this time that our Church became known as Rhema Family Church.

The need for a larger meeting venue was fulfilled when we moved into our current home in Burswood. Since May 1989, our Church has been lead by Philip and Heather Baker, Philip being the founding pastor's son. In March 1998 our church changed its name to Riverview Church.

During our history, Riverview has grown steadily and diversified to become the largest church in WA and one of Australia's largest churches, with weekend attendance of over 4500 people. As one of the growing number of contemporary churches springing up across Australia and around the world, we combine a strong theological base and passionate worship with relevant preaching.
