leadership

Leadership is the capacity to organise and set the direction of a project in a way that motivates and aids the spiritual growth of others. Leaders are people whose ideas and actions are inspiring to people, who understand what needs to be accomplished, and who help bring completion.

At Riverview Church, leadership is not reserved for senior leaders only, but is found at all levels of influence and in all areas of the Church. We emphasise a model of servant-leadership. A servant-leader is one who is called to lead and has a primary motivation to serve others as Jesus modelled and commanded.

Leadership of different styles and passions is part of the tapestry that forms the church and helps it fulfil its commission.

As a Riverview Leader there are three important areas for growth:

  1. Riverview Knowledge - our Mission, Values, Distinctives, Intangibles, structure, goals, programme knowledge and communication.

This information can be found in our Partnership Handbook, Volunteer Handbook, at our Weekend services, and through this website.

  1. Personal and spiritual health and growth - ensuring that our inner world is “well”. As we lead others, our personal Christianity needs to be visible and robust.
  2. Leadership skills - we all need to work at becoming a better leader by gathering skills that may relate to practical knowledge, caring for people or understanding the systems that affect our roles.

leadership pipeline

The Leadership Pipeline is a project designed to identify, train and support Partners and staff in their leadership roles at Riverview Church. The main aim is to train the core of the church to do work in the various areas of ministry.

Leadership Pipeline is a 16 week course with 4 sessions comprising of 2 hours over 4 Monday nights during each of the 4 school terms. Participants can enter at the start of any school term, and complete the missed sessions the following year. A certificate will be issued for all participants who complete the course.

The purpose of the Leadership Pipeline training is to:

  1. To clarify and articulate leadership at Riverview: what, why, how and who - Leadership the Riverview Way.
  2. To increase the value of Christian leadership at the same time as reinforcing the attitude of servant leadership (keeping in the forefront the ‘right’ attitude of leadership).
  3. To identify potential leaders at Riverview and assist them to better understand their personal leadership capacity and style as well as provide input for growth and development.
  4. To create a healthy and realistic environment for the promotion of leadership at Riverview Church.
