Welcome to the first edition of South News for 2007!  Our prayer for each of you this year is that God would continue to enrich your walk with Him, your relationships and your world. 

We are expectant for growth in all areas of our church in 07, with many people coming to know Christ in our services and the establishing of a rich culture of community, prayer and evangelistic invitation.

This year we also launch our new mid-week discipleship training courses across the church. We anticipate that these courses will cause great spiritual hunger and growth amongst us.  Stay tuned for further details from Phil in the weeks ahead!

This Sunday, 28th January, our Senior Minister, Phil Baker will be speaking live at the South Campus, continuing our theme, One Inspiring Summer.  It’s going to be a great morning so come early, come expectant and bring your friends and family!

On Thursday 15th February we will be hosting our Volunteers Launch for 2007 at the City Campus Auditorium.  Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.  These nights are especially for all of you who volunteer in areas of service around the church and are a brilliant opportunity for all of us to come together for an evening of vision, humour and community.  The last Volunteers Night, our Pirate Party held in November, was a great success, so make sure you don’t miss this one!

Tickets are free but you must pick them up at the South Bookstore or register online.   All volunteers who are there on the night will receive an exclusive 2007 Riverview Volunteers gift.  So mark your diary, book the babysitter and make sure you are there for this wonderful evening.  For further details please call the Events Department at the church office on 9416 0000.

We are delighted to announce that our first South Baby Dedication will be held on Sunday 11th February during our 10am service.  Our Baby Dedications are significant occasions in the life of our church, undergirding our commitment to the role of spiritual partnership with parents as they raise their children in faith. 

If you would like to register your child or children to be dedicated, please contact our Weekend Services Coordinator, Hayley Przybula at the church office on 9416 0000, email hayleyp@riverviewchurch.com.au or alternatively pick up a registration form this Sunday at the Info Desk.  Once you have registered your child, you will receive a confirmation pack from Hayley, including invitations for your friends and family.  

Our first New People’s Night for 2007 will be held on Saturday 3rd February commencing at 5:45 pm.  The evening will be hosted in the Community Services building at our City Campus.
 
The night is open to any person who is interested in becoming a partner of Riverview Church and provides the unique opportunity of being able to hear the heart and vision of our church from Phil and others from our leadership team in an informal and intimate setting.

We have a number of Connect Groups operating in the South region.  If you are interested in joining a Connect Group, please contact our South Connect Pastor, Ryan Hill, at the church office on 9416 0125, email ryanh@riverviewchurch.com.au or go back to the Lounge and speak to Ryan or one of our friendly Connect Team on Sunday after the service.   

You may be aware that with the departure of our Connect Department leader Maria Butler in December last year, our Connect Area is currently implementing quite a few changes, under the leadership of Kelley Chisholm.  As such, our Connect Group Leaders Training Course, scheduled for February 2007, will now be postponed.

Our Children’s Teams and Service Teams (ushers, greeters, safety and traffic attendants) do an incredible job under the leadership of Sharon Wilson (Children’s) and Neil and Tania Davidson (ST).  We are currently in urgent need of new volunteers in each of these areas to enable our current volunteers to be rostered and to manage our steady growth at South. 

Our Children’s area is looking for committed, caring and enthusiastic workers in all areas including Administration, Toddlers, Little People’s (ages 3-5) and Primary Zone.  If you are interested in attending a training night or want to find out more, please don’t hesitate to talk with Sharon Wilson on Sunday or contact her at the church on Tuesdays or Wednesdays on 9416 0000. 

For more information about Service Teams, please speak with Marcus Passauer or Neil and Tania Davidson on Sunday at the South service.  Alternatively you can fill out a Volunteers Card for any area of service you may be interested in and drop it off at the Lounge after the service.

Riverview 18+ Zone has organised an Extreme Ski afternoon for this Sunday 28th January.  Join other Riverview 18-25 year olds for a fun afternoon of biskiting on the Swan River.  Meet at the end of Mill Point Rd in South Perth, under the Narrows Bridge.  It starts at 1pm with a BYO BBQ lunch and the cost is $10 per person.  For further details contact Luisa or Bridget at the church office on 9416 0000.
