Welcome to the August edition of Cockburn Central News! 

Hope you are enjoying the winter rains.  We have quite a lot of news and events to update you on for the month of August and beyond.  We are also celebrating the resounding success of the Christmas in July Dinner last Friday.  Approximately 80 of us attended a night of feasting, fellowship and fun, with wonderful Aussie bush poets, crackers and lanterns galore!!  Many thanks to Dale Meredith, Hilary Elliott and team for a truly memorable evening! 

The next Bloke event will be held at the Burswood Campus on Wednesday 15 August at 7:30pm.  The night will include complimentary pizza and beer on arrival for every guy, the return of Marriage Man and a new segment featuring 2-time Australian Rally Champion, Dean Herridge.  Phil Baker will present a Denton-style interview with former WA Premier, Geoff Gallop.  Cost is $20 per person and tickets can be purchased online at www.riverviewchurch.com.au or at the Info Desk on Sunday.  It promises to be a great night out with the boys, so invite your mates today!

Our first ever South Connect Mix will be held from 12 noon on Sunday 26th August (after the 10am service) in the Upper Room at Cockburn Central Campus. 

If you want to get involved in a Connect Group in your area or are interested in finding out more about leading or hosting a South Connect Group, then this event is designed especially for you!

The purpose of the ‘Mix’ is to provide a place for people who want to connect at Riverview to meet other attendees and leaders in the context of a temporary Connect Group. From this it is hoped that you will be able to discover shared interests and develop connections that may lead to a more permanent Connect Group that you can join.

Lunch will be provided, so RSVP today by emailing your name, contact number and age group (ie 18+, 25+, adult or 55+) to alysonp@riverviewchurch.com.au or alternatively, you can register your details at the Lounge on Sunday at church.  This is a great opportunity to meet Connect Group Leaders and new friends in an informal and relaxed forum.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Our next South Baby Dedication will be held on Sunday 9 September during our 10am service.  Our Baby Dedications are significant occasions in the life of our church, undergirding our commitment to the role of spiritual partnership with parents as they raise their children in faith. 

If you would like to register your child or children to be dedicated, please contact our Weekend Services Coordinator, Hayley Przybula at the church office on 9416 0000, email hayleyp@riverviewchurch.com.au or alternatively complete a registration form this Sunday at the Info Desk.  Once you have registered your child, you will receive a confirmation pack with further details from Hayley.

Currently there is a shortage of Connect Groups in the Cockburn Central area.  We are therefore looking for people to take on the rewarding role of leading their own Connect Group.  If you feel as though this is something you could do then please contact Alyson at the church office on 9416 0194 or via email alysonp@riverviewchurch.com.au for further details. Alternatively, we would love you to attend our inaugural South Connect Mix (details above) or register with Dave Ryder for our next Connect Leaders Training Course on 9416 0028.  Our sincere thanks to those have responded over the last few weeks.  We look forward to providing a thriving Connect Group network in the Southern suburbs.

If you would like to accelerate your spiritual growth then our mid-week training course - Accelerate - is for you.  Our August theme is called Beyond: Purpose and Destiny.  We will be covering some key topics including a Biblical evidence of Heaven and Hell.  Your August speakers Haydn Nelson, Aly Passauer, Duane Dixon and Mark Pomery look forward to seeing you there for what promises to be a very exciting and informative month of teaching!

Accelerate is held every Thursday evening at the Cockburn Central Campus. Sessions run from 7.30-9.00pm with a short refreshment break included. You can register for Accelerate online at www.riverviewchurch.com.au or contact Haydn Nelson at the church office for more details.

Don’t forget to be in church this Sunday August 5th as Sy Rogers begins our new theme, Beyond: Purpose and Destiny.  Sy will be speaking at all our services this weekend and also at the 6pm service on Sunday 12th August.  Then, on Sunday 19th August we have Alan Meyer with us for all services.  Sy and Alan are two of Riverview’s most love teachers, so make sure you don’t miss them.

Our first anniversary service will be held on Sunday 21 October 2007 at 10am.  We are also planning a ‘birthday party’ to commemorate this wonderful milestone together.  Please put this date in your calendar and plan to be there to join the festivities. Details of our birthday party will be announced in subsequent e-letters!
