March 2008 E-Newsletter

Welcome to the March edition of Cockburn Central News!

We’ve had sausages and we’ve had sundae’s! You may well be wondering what’s next. Well we do have a few ideas up our sleeves and all will be revealed in due course.

One thing you can be sure of, whatever it is, it will start with the letter S. Sunday sushi? Maybe not!

To recap this past month we had 4 beautiful children dedicated, we had Alyson speaking live with us, we had the Volunteer Vision Launch, we had people getting engaged and we had our very first Sunday Sundae which we’re fairly sure was a raging success, especially with the kids. I think my son, Harrison, managed to consume 3. So let’s take a look at what the month of March is going to look like around Cockburn…

EASTER – 21st & 23rd March
The title for this year’s Good Friday service is Torn: The Blood Oath.

There will be no service at Cockburn Central on Good Friday but please bring your family and friends to one of the services at the Burswood Campus. The service times are 9am, 11:15am, 6pm and 8:15pm. See the Riverview website for more information. Our Easter Sunday service will be at 10am at Cockburn Central with Adam speaking live.

CONNECT MIX – This Sunday
We will be running a Connect Mix after the morning service on the 9th March up in the Primary Zone area from 11.45am till 1pm.
If you are a leader who has some room in your group for some more like-minded souls, or if you are just looking to get connected into a group then you need to be at the Mix. A Connect Mix is a brilliant way to get connected into a group that fits you and it’s a great way to find people that fit your group. Please email me if you are keen to come. We would love to have as many of you there as possible and lunch will be provided.

CONNECT GROUP LEADERS
Thankyou to those of you who responded to the call for more Connect Group Leaders. We have a few of you who will be completing the four week course at the Burswood campus very soon and we are looking forward to getting you up and running with groups of your own. For those of you who would like to lead a group, Adam and I will be starting Connect Group Leader Training from the Cockburn Campus. The details of how and when this will happen are yet to be finalised but if this is something that you would be interested in doing then please drop me an email.

PARKING
The new parking system seems to be working well. A big thankyou to everyone for coming on board with it, and thankyou to our fabulous parking volunteers for steering everyone in the right direction (ha ha!). If you’re not aware of the new system then grab a map from the Info Desk or checkout our facebook group.

VOLUNTEERS

Our Children’s Ministry needs you. If you call Cockburn your home and you don’t currently volunteer anywhere then could I encourage, plead, beg, implore, and beseech you to consider volunteering in the Children’s Ministry. If my grovelling has motivated you at all then please send me an email or fill out a volunteer application form at the lounge. We would love to have you on the team.

Also a new initiative will soon be revealed - so stay on the lookout for 'The Mob'.

PRAYER MEETING – WEDNESDAY'S @ 7:30AM
We have a regular core group of prayers who come every Wednesday morning but we would love to see more of you. There is a lot we need prayer for as a church and as a broader community so if you can we would love to see as many of you as possible make this time a priority. You can come and go at anytime from 7.30am till 8.30am.

HERTIME – 20th March @ 10am
Hertime is coming to Cockburn. Ok, it’s only for one day, but it’s a start. I know there are many of you who would love to see Hertime happening regularly at Cockburn and this is definitely on the cards but for now it would be great to see as many of you there as possible. Heather Baker will be speaking and the cost is $7, which includes morning tea and childcare.

POWER UPDATE
OK, we’ve been given a date for the power to be on. Drum roll please! The 5th March. It is with much anticipation and a little apprehension that we await the arrival of this date. From this date we can begin to adjusting the internals of our building which will in turn effect the aircon, lighting and our cafe.

YOUTH BUS
A number of you have already registered your interest in a Youth Bus from Cockburn Central. If you have youth who go to Burswood on a Friday night and you would like them to go on the bus then please drop me an email. We are currently working out the details on a Cockburn Youth bus and hope to have it finalised by the end of the month. We are also in need of youth leader to travel with the youth, so that youth starts from the moment they arrive at Cockburn and not Burswood, If your interested in this, please email me asap.

BABY DEDICATION – 27TH APRIL
Our next baby dedication will be happening during our 10am service on the 27th April. If you have children that you would like to get dedicated then please register at the Info Desk or drop me an email.

OCCASIONS
Congratulations to Kyle and Siana, and Adrian and Jenny who both got engaged last month. Happy birthday also to Lauren Hocking who turned 4 and had her 16th on the 29th Feb. Finally, we say bon voyage this month to John and Margaret Pendlebury who are setting off on the Doulos later this month. We know they are going to have an amazing time and we can’t wait to hear of their adventures on the high seas.

Love and Blessings Adam and Dale
