Well Cockburn is 2 years old this month and it has now been a year since Adam and I took on the Campus Pastor role from Marcus and Alyson.  We’d really love to take this opportunity to thank all of you for making it such a great year.  You have all been so encouraging and supportive and this has meant the world to us.  We love our church and we appreciate you all so much.  Even though taking on this role wasn’t something we expected we are extremely grateful for where God has placed us and the people he has placed around us.  You guys are awesome!

And just in case you hadn’t heard…..

We have decided to postpone the launch of 2 services at Cockburn Central that was originally planned for the 26th Oct 08.  The reason for postponing till 2009, is that we want to launch from a position of strength.  As we move towards the end of the year, as a leadership team we believe it would be unwise to expand when there is a general feeling of tiredness across the church as a whole, and a feeling that this move may be a little pre-mature.  From a personal viewpoint, as much as we’re ready to give it a go, we really want there to be unity at all levels when such a move is made.  We will continue to prepare for this expansion with volunteer recruitment etc, and look forward to 2009 as we make room for more people at Cockburn Central.

VOLUNTEERS
A huge Thankyou to our new volunteers for being willing to help us out in KidzChurch.  Beverley Reed in Little Peoples, Claire Hamilton and Danni Touzel in Toddlers and Belinda Beard - returning after time off. We are so glad to have you as part of our team and pray that God blesses you mightily for stepping forward.

KIDS-2-GATHER: WEDNESDAY 8TH OCTOBER
If you’re looking for some school holiday fun for your primary aged kids then register them for Kidz-2-Gather.  Grab a flyer from KidzChurch on Sunday for more information.

YOUTH: STARTS AGAIN ON THE 17TH OCTOBER
Transport from Cockburn Central now leaves at 7pm so you can arrive any time from 6.30pm.  Pick up time is still 9.30pm sharp!  If you need more info email Adam.

KIDZCHURCH ORIENTATION: OCTOBER

2nd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: 19TH OCTOBER
Come and join us after the service for our family fun day.  There will be a bouncy castle, a sausage sizzle, cake and heaps more.  Bring along your picnic blanket, drinks and salad.  Register at the Info Desk after the service or send me an email.

NEW PEOPLE’S NIGHT: 9TH OCTOBER @ 7:30PM

Our new Christians course is for people just beginning their Christian journey or who want to find out more about Christianity. Register at the Lounge after the service.

CHURCH TOGETHER VOLUNTEER VISION NIGHT: 16TH OCTOBER
The successful running of the event is dependant on volunteers. Come & hear the vision and sign up to a team. Thursday 16th October at 7.30PM, Burswood campus.
 
PRAYER MEETING: WEDNESDAY MORNINGS @ 7:30AM
If you are a prayer (and let’s face it, we all should be) or if you need prayer, then come along to our Wednesday morning prayer meeting.

SUBWAY
Is available every Sunday now.  Just text your order before 10:30am and it will be ready to pick up from the Café after the service.  For more details grab a Subway card from the Info Desk.

ACCELERATE
Our mid-week teaching programme known as Accelerate is now bi-monthly! Sessions run 7.30-9pm at Burswood & Cockburn Central. Participation notes and location times are online . We will be taking a break for October but will be kicking off again on the 6th November.

DOULOS
The Doulos will be docked at Fremantle from the 10th – 28th October.  The Doulos is a boat that sails around the world spreading the gospel and bringing aid.  While here you will be able to come aboard for a tour, to visit the world famous bookshop they have onbaord or you can attend a conference.   The staff of the Doulos are also in need of volunteers to help out while the boat is here.  For more information follow the link www.doulosdownunder.org.au .

TENNIS-A-THON
This fundraiser for the school chaplains in our area will be run at Robertson Park Tennis Centre on Saturday 1st November, 2008 from 9am – 5pm.  6 courts have been booked and we’re aiming for a minimum of 24 players.  If you’re quick with a racquet then we’d love for you to be involved.  For more information contact Rachel Bargerbos.
 
Our chaplains offer an invaluable contribution to our society.  Through our local chaplains we’re able to share the person and work of Jesus Christ in real and practical ways throughout the community.   .
